About Us
Solon Learning Academy was founded in 2012 by Kristen Struzynski and Emily Elsasser. Our goal is to offer a complete early learning experience to ensure that your child is kindergarten ready and a step ahead of the rest! It is important to us that we take learning beyond traditional academic subjects and teach children to be independent learners. Children learn through their own curiosity, persistence, and creativity.
What makes Solon Learning Academy unique:
- Curriculum development catered to each child's individual needs.
- Thirty minutes per week is used for one-on-one instruction to meet the needs of the child and to enhance their learning.
- Unique learning experience will include learning from many outside sources, including people from the community.
- In-depth portfolios will be given to parents that monitor the progress of the child from when they start until they graduate from the pre-kindergarten classroom. These portfolios will include major milestones achieved throughout their time at Solon Learning Academy.
- Center-wide theme (each classroom will share the same themed lessons)
- A healthy and "fresh" lunch menu will vary week by week.

Safety and Security:
All doors are controlled by a secure access. Any visitors would need to enter through main doors and be buzzed in by administration. Parents will have an access code as well as authorized pick up person associated with their child. The school is equipped with a sprinkler system in case of a fire. Teachers are trained in case of emergency (fire,tornado, or intruder). Children practice fire and tornado drills monthly.
Each classroom has one full time lead teacher certified in early childhood education, elementary education or had experience working in a daycare setting. Each staff member must to go through the necessary training required by law to work in a daycare setting. The lead teacher is responsible for planning daily lessons and executing them. We also have a smart board available at Solon Learning Academy for students and teachers.

Hi! My name is Kristen and I am a graduate from the University of Iowa where I majored in Elementary Education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2010. While at Iowa, I specialized in reading, language arts and art and had many experiences working in the Iowa City Community School District. I enjoyed working in a pre-kindergarten classroom for two years after recieving my degree. While there, I taught children ages 4-6 in preparation for their Kindergarten year. Working in a daycare setting for five years has provided me with the necessary experiences and knowledge to confidently run our center.

Hi, my name is Emily and I studied Psychology at Mount Mercy University. While there I discovered my calling working in an infant room at a local daycare center. I've worked with children from ages six weeks to school age children and have loved every moment of it. I have nearly ten years experience working with children, as well as volunteer experience working as a Sunday school and Catechism teacher. The education and nurturing of children is my true passion in life. I'm so excited to become a part of you and your child's life.
